All India Biotech Association (AIBA)
All India Biotech Association was established in the year 1994 as a non-profit society to provide common apex forum at the national level to represent the interests of all those engaged in various aspects of Biotechnology. One of the main objectives of AIBA is to promote and safeguard the overall interests of Biotechnology as a science, profession, industry or trade. The head quarters of AIBA is operating at New Delhi. In August 1999, the Southern Chapter of AIBA has started functioning at Hyderabad . AIBA aims to cover all areas in Biotechnology field namely:
  • Pharmaceuticals and Medical equipments
  • Agriculture, Plantations, Horticulture, Floriculture, Aquaculture, Tissue culture, etc. including Biofertilizers, Biopesticides and Biocontrol agents
  • Hardware including machinery, equipment, instruments, etc. and software
  • Industrial Biotechnology products and applications

With the objective of promoting Biotechnology at the grass root level, All India Biotech Association affiliated National Biological Association for Students [NBAS] which is first of its kind in India, as its Student Wing in the Feb 2006.

Indian Pharmaceutical Association (IPA)
Indian Pharmaceutical Association (IPA) is the premier professional association of pharmacists in India, with a member base of over 10,000, spread across the length & breadth of the nation. IPA operates in India through 17 state branches & more than 33 local branches. The members represent various facets of pharmaceutical profession viz. Industry, regulatory, community pharmacy, hospital pharmacy & education. IPA is also actively associated in managing several academic programmes. IPA is affiliated with international pharma associations like FIP, FAPA, CPA, AAPS, AAiPS, IPSF & WHO, for carrying out various collaborative professional activities which include organizing training programmes for professionals from industry, academics, regulatory & practice, making representations to the authorities on matters of professional interest & working towards constantly upgrading the standards of professional services offered by the pharmacists.

Indian Drug Manufacturers’ Association (IDMA)
Indian Drug Manufacturers’ Association (IDMA) was formed in 1961 to help Indian manufacturers and to protect the interest of the Indian consumer. Membership of over 600 wholly-Indian large, medium and small companies. Turnover of Indian pharma industry has grown exponentially from Rs.10 crore (about US$ 2 million) in 1948 to about Rs. 75,000 crore today, a growth rate of over 10%. Members’ Indian Market share – about 75% in formulations and about 85% in bulk drugs. Members’ Export Record – about 65% of India’s total drugs & pharma exports over Rs. 33,000 crores growing at 22%.

Indian Drug Distributors
The “Indian Drug Distributors,” is an organisation in the pharma and health care industry for exporting and supplying comprehensive range of pharmaceutical formulations, hospital equipment and other medical related products. The complete product and equipment range offered by the organisation can be categorized under heads like pharmaceutical drugs, fluids and formulations, medical disposable and surgical products, hospital furniture, diagnostic equipment, cosmetics and beauty care products. The organisation tie ups with leading medical/pharma drugs and other product manufacturers and is present not only in Indian markets but also in the markets of North America, South America, Western Europe, Eastern Europe, Eastern Asia, Southeast Asia, Mid East countries and Africa Oceania region.

Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR)
The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), New Delhi, the apex body in India for the formulation, coordination and promotion of biomedical research, is one of the oldest medical research bodies in the world. The Council promotes biomedical research in the country through intramural as well as extramural research. Over the decades, the base of extramural research and also its strategies have been expanded by the Council.
In addition to research activities, the ICMR encourages human resource development in biomedical research through (i) Research Fellowships (ii) Short-Term Visiting Fellowships. (iii) Short-Term Research Studentships. (iv) Various Training Programmes and Workshops conducted by ICMR Institutes and Headquarters.

Indian Academy of Sciences
The Academy, founded in 1934, aims at promoting the progress and upholding the cause of science in pure and applied branches. Major activities include publication of scientific journals and special volumes, organizing meetings of the Fellowship and discussions on important topics, recognizing scientific talent, improvement of science education and taking up other issues of concern to the scientific community.

Indian Association for the Cultivation of Science
IACS is the oldest (established in 1876) institute in India devoted to the pursuit of fundamental research in the frontier areas of basic sciences. Professor C V Raman worked at IACS for many years (1907- 1933) and it is here that he discovered the celebrated Effect that bears his name and for which he was awarded Nobel Prize in Physics in 1930
